My Crochet Story
I started crocheting at a very early age and continued to do so even into my adulthood. At one point, I had turned my love for crochet into a small part-time business crocheting baby blankets as gifts for baby showers. I really enjoyed seeing new expectant moms’ faces light up as they opened their gift to reveal a handcrafted baby blanket that was made with my love and prayers
Somewhere along the way, however, my joy for crocheting turned into a burden, having to meet deadlinesto have a blanket finished within a certain amount of time because I had a paying customer. Eventually, crocheting for business just totally destroyed the joy I had and the fulfillment I found in just the act of crocheting.
I let it go for awhile, not really knowing if I would ever pick up yarn and crochet hook needle again. Through the years, every now and then, my mind wouold wonder back to the wonderul memories of just crocheting and getting lost in the feel of the yarn gliding between my fingers and how I would linger over each finished product, sometimes becoming so emotionally attached that I was torn with the idea of it actually being sold.
About two years ago, the Holy Spirit impressed upon me to crochet prayer shawls and give to women that are hurting. Well, I had not even heard of a prayer shawl, so I did some quick research on the internet for crocheted prayer shawls and sure enough, I found just enough information to get me excited about starting a prayer shawl ministry.
In the spring of 2009, the Beauty for Ashes Prayer Shawl Ministry was born. My goal and mission with this ministry was to share God’s love with women who are hurting through something tangible such as my prayer shawl that God loves and is concerned about them.
